In a study, researchers investigated the effect of vitamin D supplementation on psoriasis severity during the winter. The participants were given either vitamin D (cholecalciferol) or a placebo for 4 months, and their psoriasis severity was assessed using various measures. The results indicated that vitamin D supplementation did not lead to a significant difference in psoriasis severity compared with the placebo group, with both groups showing similar changes in Psoriasis Area Severity Index and Physician Global Assessment scores. The researchers suggest that the lack of significant impact on psoriasis severity may be attributed to the low baseline severity scores of the participants and the unexpectedly lower increase in vitamin D levels in the intervention group compared with previous studies.
