In a recent study, researchers identified the factors influencing COVID-19 vaccine decision-making among individuals diagnosed with a rheumatologic condition, utilizing an online survey. Previous studies have shown that a significant number of patients with rheumatic disease (RD) are hesitant to receive the vaccine.
Results indicated the most significant concerns regarding COVID-19 vaccines were the potential impact on their rheumatic condition (45.2%) and vaccine effectiveness (45.1%). The study authors concluded that factors influencing COVID-19 vaccine decision-making in patients with RD included concerns about adverse effects on disease control, reduced vaccine efficacy due to RD/treatment, and fears of contracting the virus from the vaccine. The findings highlight the importance of healthcare providers engaging in discussions in patients with RD, providing evidence-based vaccine information, and supporting informed decision-making.
