Researchers reviewed and provided an overview of the current epidemiology, clinical characteristics, pruritus scoring systems, and available treatment options for chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus (CKD-aP) in children and those on dialysis. Findings showed that effective management involves recognizing the severity of symptoms, understanding the impact on quality of life, and considering potential long-term outcomes. Optimizing dialysis treatment and correcting electrolyte imbalances are important targets for treatment. While there are various therapeutic options available, their effectiveness in children remains poorly studied. Early recognition and treatment of this distressing symptom in children are crucial.
