A study analyzing data from 2010 to 2019 reveals increasing hospitalization rates for patients with myasthenia gravis (MG), particularly among those aged 65 and older. Hospitalizations for MG increased at an average annual rate of 4.9%, with rates for MG crisis cases rising even higher. Readmission rates stayed consistent at around 20%, while the average in-hospital mortality rate was 1.8%. Older patients experienced higher hospitalization rates, with an annual increase of 5.2% for all MG cases, and their mortality rates were also higher, averaging 5.0%.

The study highlights a growing burden of MG, especially in older adults, with the increase in hospitalization rates leading to more readmissions and deaths.
