Researchers of a study aimed to estimate the association between psoriasis disease activity and future cardiovascular events in patients treated with psoriasis systemics. Researchers collected data on Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) scores and cardiovascular risk factors from a treatment register and linked it to population-based registers documenting hospitalizations and causes of death. The study found that a one-point increase in PASI was associated with a 1.04 hazard ratio (HR) for cardiovascular events. Patients with higher PASI scores had even higher HRs for cardiovascular events.

The researchers concluded that identifying patients with psoriasis with high cardiovascular risk based on PASI scores could help reduce their cardiovascular risk through effective psoriasis treatment. However, the study did not find significant associations between PASI and changes in LDL, HDL, and TG.
