Researchers aimed to explore the potential causal link between hypothyroidism and myasthenia gravis (MG) using a Mendelian randomization (MR) approach. Researchers used data from large genome-wide association studies to analyze single-nucleotide polymorphisms related to both conditions. The findings indicated a positive association between genetic liability to hypothyroidism and an increased risk of MG, with results consistent across various MR methods.

The study concludes that hypothyroidism may increase the risk of MG, and further research is needed to understand underlying mechanisms that could lead to new treatments for MG.
