Researchers investigated persistent postoperative pain in orthopedic hip, knee, and spinal surgeries, including 297 patients aged 55 years and older. At the one-year mark after their surgeries, 34.6% of patients reported persistent pain, with a mean score of 1.2 on a numerical rating scale. Factors associated with increased risk of persistent pain included lower preoperative bodily pain and higher preoperative C-reactive protein (CRP) levels.
