Almost 30 million Americans suffer from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), with an estimated 80% of cases going undiagnosed. If left untreated, sleep apnea can result in severe health issues, such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes, and depression. Furthermore, roughly 23.5 million cases of OSA in the United States remain undiagnosed. The Count on Sleep partnership has released a national Obstructive Sleep Apnea Indicator Report—funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion grant awarded to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine—providing an in-depth analysis the symptoms, risk factors, prevalence, and impact of OSA.
