A recent study analyzed the use of narrowband-ultraviolet B (UVB) therapy for chronic plaque psoriasis, enrolling adult participants with plaque psoriasis and treating them with narrowband-UVB therapy three times a week for six months. The participants’ Psoriasis Area Severity Index scores and Dermatology Life Quality Index scores were measured at different time points throughout the study.
Out of the 12 participants recruited, 10 received narrowband-UVB therapy along with topical treatments. All participants had an excellent response to the therapy, achieving significant improvement in their condition by week 8. No significant differences in response were observed based on gender, age, disease severity, or prior UV therapy exposure. At the one-month follow-up, all patients remained in remission, and no major changes in disease scores were reported. The researchers concluded that narrowband-UVB therapy is safe and effective for psoriasis treatment, but the lower limbs present unique challenges and require additional attention.
