Researchers of a recent study examined family planning concerns in 153 women of childbearing age with psoriasis. A total of 38.4% of the participants had moderate to severe psoriasis. Women perceived their condition as more severe than their physicians did. A third of the women reported that psoriasis impacted their desire or decision to become pregnant, mainly due to worries about treatment effects on the baby and worsening of their condition. Approximately 50% of the women, particularly those who had never been pregnant, did not receive family planning counseling from their doctors. The study underscores the significant family planning concerns of women with psoriasis and the need for better training for dermatologists in providing family planning counseling to these patients.
