Chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus (CKD-aP) is a distressing symptom for patients and challenging for nephrologists and dermatologists. Recent studies show that the cause is complex, and therapeutic trials have only worked for certain patients. The most common skin symptom is xerosis, which is linked to the severity of CKD-aP. Better understanding and topical treatments for xerosis may reduce the severity of CKD-aP and improve patients’ quality of life.
