Kathleen Ferrell is a highly skilled Physician Assistant with over 17 years of experience in Gastroenterology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Since becoming a PA in 2007, she has been dedicated to improving patient outcomes in gastrointestinal health, with a particular focus on complex esophageal conditions.

Kathleen is currently completing her Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) degree at the University of Pittsburgh, where her doctoral work centers on a quality improvement project designed to enhance the knowledge and attitudes of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in diagnosing and treating Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE). The success of this project was demonstrated by a remarkable 113% increase in pre- versus post-education assessment scores, reflecting her commitment to advancing the field through education and evidence-based practice.

Beyond her clinical and academic work, Kathleen is actively involved in leadership and education through her roles in several committees of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG). She serves on the APP Committee, Education Committee, and Membership Committee. Additionally, she is an active member of the UNC APP Education Committee, contributing to the ongoing professional development of her peers and colleagues.

Kathleen’s passion for patient care, education, and quality improvement drives her to continually innovate and advocate for advancements in Gastroenterology.
