A systematic review analyzed eight observational studies to assess the link between psoriasis and dementia risk. While the results varied, most of the studies indicated a higher risk of dementia in patients with psoriasis. Some studies specifically highlighted an increased risk for nonvascular dementia types. Studies differed in participant age and follow-up duration, affecting the results. Discrepancies were noted, especially related to these factors. The review suggests that psoriasis-related systemic chronic inflammation might elevate dementia risk, with some evidence pointing to potential risk reduction through anti-inflammatory treatments. However, more comprehensive research is needed, considering psoriasis severity and treatment, to fully understand this relationship and its impact on various dementia subtypes.
