Gut microbiota are part disease processes, particularly in liver diseases such as cirrhosis and its common complication, hepatic encephalopathy (HE). Researchers focused on the connection between intestinal dysbiosis and HE in cirrhotic patients and highlighted the potential of probiotics in their treatment; these influence the gut microbiota and offer multiple benefits by reducing serum ammonia levels, decreasing oxidative stress, and limiting the intake of toxins.
