Researchers confirmed that psoriasis is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors, and it is associated with various conditions including depression, cardiovascular risk, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, Crohn’s disease, and more. For mild cases, lifestyle changes and topical therapies like emollients, coal tar, topical corticosteroids, vitamin D analogues, and calcineurin inhibitors are used. Severe psoriasis may require systemic therapy with oral or biologic medications.
