Researchers of a recent study conducted a 30-day trial to evaluate the effectiveness of a keratolytic and hydrating shampoo containing 2% salicylic acid, 5% urea, and 1% glycerin on managing scalp psoriasis in adults with mild-to-moderate psoriasis. The study involved 67 participants who used either the active shampoo or a control shampoo. The active shampoo significantly improved scalp psoriasis symptoms, as assessed by the Psoriasis Scalp Severity Index and the Scalp Dermatitis-Specific Quality-of-Life Issues Questionnaire. Participants using the active shampoo reported high satisfaction and expressed a desire to continue its use. The trial demonstrated that non-medicated shampoos could be beneficial during periods when medicated treatments are not recommended for continuous use.
